Make the first sentence of your manuscript’s Introduction section (or the Background section of a grant) interesting to attract the reader’s attention.

 Example

Poor: The purpose of this report is to show the safety and efficacy of a new treatment for advanced gastric cancer. (unnecessary words and no introduction of the agent)

Good: DRUG represents a safe and effective treatment for patients with advanced gastric cancer.

Poor: Cancer is a major public health problem. (uninteresting, uninformative)

Good: The long-term survival of pancreatic cancer patients after surgery remains poor, at only XX%.
